A Night's Day Hard with Star Lennon (And Hardly McHarrison)
Why on earth doesn't Paul sing more songs on Beatles third album?!? John's voice gives it's hard happiness to seven tracks, Paul just takes three. They sing quite together on two, while George gets one, and Ringo none.
Not that this fact would make the record less rich - it's still the most well-fed rock thing they did! Powerful and beautiful!!
But so fast Beatles had to work then, playing for a more and more hungry audience plus in the parallell movie... Maybe a little more of all the light Lennon managed, could have already then been successfully shared among all four???
Always hard to tell in real time - if the process of them becoming potential solo profiles had started to early - that probably would've damaged the band. Here Beatles plays as a BAND more than ever!?!? And nothing else but self-made material makes this the first really really Beatles' album.
As a boy I was bought the "Something New" US-version instead of the original. There "A Hard Day's Night", "You Can't Do That", "Can't Buy Me Love" and two more were left out (but I had heard them on a collection). This was 1982, far from 1964, and in northern Sweden, far from USA. Anyway I got two cover tracks, glad to hear Ringo in Matchbox.
Something New also seems a bit more well suited as an album. Presumably I believe so just because I'm still unused to hear the songs in this original order.
