Taking Tiger Mountain and Another Green World with Brian Eno

Between Eno's second and third solo album (1974-75) I believe he went from the most engaging and creative concept in rock history into relatively boring structures I still don't grasp some meaningfulness in.

If the later style never had become more synonymous with Eno, I would have thought he had a hollow of depression. Seems like walking from a circus stage into an elevator. Maybe the presence of Phil Manzanera from Roxy Music still gave the tiger mountain rich sharpness.

Anyway the critics as well as the users now on allmusic gives both albums a full hand of stars.

For example here I saw a favourite 40 Lennon list:
http://www.keno.org/john_lennon/Favorite40JLSongs.htm

I've choosen only 39 pieces
inspired by John's "love" for number nine
(even though he died forty)

and presented them in order of how well I believe they resonate with my own life, now and before now...

...since for Lennon as it seems, your individual experience was what's really real - although Love is more important than introspection.

I've tried to consider the lyrics as well as the feeling of each song, becoming some kind of archetypes. Well, these intentions may in the end be the same thing as how much I love each one (while Lennon's more explicitly political songs I don't really love).

Essence of Cosmic Wheels with Donovan

Some believe Donovan Leitch's both records released 1973 are the worst you can imagine, in comparision to his late 60's full of pure songwriting. Then Donovan turned the psychedelica, via children's tunes, into something more singalong-like of kinda new age sort. That began with these two "comeback" albums : Cosmic Wheels + Essence to Essence, gathered on one disc in 2004. I like them better, but maybe just because that was my first impression of this Glasgow-born scotchman.

Well, I can understand why people experience these as superficial songs, but I think it suits Donovan even better. (On first side of the wheel he even steps a toe into heavy metal.) And this still tells so much more about life's fun, sad and spiritual sides, than ordinary dancin' hits do, which soon would narrow glam rock and soul into disco. And I don't really hear some unbridgeable difference from the Donovan who made Hurdy Gurdy Man and Barabajagal - it seems like a naturally developed process.

Bashful Blonds who Brian Hyland belonged to

Album # 1302

The Bashful Blond (1961)
Let Me Belong to You (1962)

two original albums on one CD (2003 edition)
Had only heard my mummy's four-track EP before

Solar Silence Station with MANFRED MANN's Earth Band

Manfred Mann made progressive as well as pop music in different incarnations. During the 70's he was the captain over the keyboard sound of his Earth Band. Mick Rogers and Chris Thompson sang mostly, and often other people made/co-made the compositions. Compared though with similar acts like Alan Parson's Project, Manfred Mann's Earth Band didn't invited different performers for each piece.

Not at least DYLAN seems to have lent "left over master pieces" to Mann frequently, starting already in the 60's, most known is MIGHTY QUINN. Therefore I was surprised when Manfred Mann turned out to be british instead of american as I thought. Even though their excursions into psychedelica goes far better along with the english tradition, I should have realised.

Here I return to three Earth Band albums from 1973 (Solar Fire), 1976 (The Roaring Silence) and 1979 (Angel Station).
