It was in high school I began to listen to Burt Bacharach. Even though it was 1991 and I never had been to America (still don't) I loved his music more and more.
Here is (not a very favourite list, but) eleven songs I heard many times, before I realized they actually are made by Burt Bacharach:
1
(THERE'S) ALWAYS SOMETHING THERE TO REMIND ME
with Sandie Shaw
2
WISHIN' AND HOPIN'
with Dusty Springfield
3
MY LITTLE RED BOOK
with Manfred Mann or with Love
4
THAT'S WHAT FRIENDS ARE FOR
with Gladys Knight, Elton John, Dionne Warwick, Stevie Wonder
5
BABY, IT'S YOU
with The Shirelles
6
WHAT'S NEW, PUSSYCAT?
with Tom Jones
7
IN THE LAND OF MAKE BELIEVE
with The Drifters or Dusty Springfield
8
ARTHUR'S THEME (caught between the Moon and New York city)
with Christopher Cross
9
TOWER OF STRENGTH
with Gene McDaniels
10
CASINO ROYALE
with Herb Alpert
11
MAKE IT EASY ON YOURSELF
with The Walker Brothers
Some of them I didn't realize until NOW where made by Burt - while hearing the collection "Magic Moments", which also includes older pieces (back to Perry Como) before Bacharach had become really big.
For the most part I first heard his own versions (from daddy's collection). But during the years I've come across covers here and there. Well, in Burt's case the pieces often were written directly for different singers to make, since his main roles were the composer's and the conductor's.
Also a medley of six Bacharach pieces I discover that Carpenter's have made:
