Mine of Diamonds

Lucy looks up into sky

while her window leans aside

as if to watch itself

in her mirror

like a high pyramid

reflecting deep water

Desmond glares down upon earth

more lucid than ever

he desires Lucy to have

this diamond for many nights

through darker and darker months

playing 8 of clubs

digging like a knight of spades

for splendid things

jingling and jangling

in a girl's glimmering mine

Lucy lets lie open

for Desmond to dash boldly into

like an alien being reminded

he has been here before

transformed by her butterfly

into something really hard

and much more solid

but since Lucy already knows she is

Queen of diamonds she doesn't need

another facet to prove

her face is the most beautiful
