Bee Gees among other Bees

I'm back to Bee Gees!!!


Realize they started even before Beatles, though they are born after each Beatles member. Bee Gees in the late 60's, when their full albums first appeared, sounds to me like a bit more serious cousin to The Kinks. Now I want to get a whole grip of every phase in Bee Gees' development, since they were not only three brothers, and lived in Australia as well as Britain. Even the american Beach Boys' discography I know better - strange because I loved to listen to Bee Gees many years before Beach Boys.


In high scool it began, while also Burt Bacharach's music reached my heart. I did'nt thought of the similarities then, but there really are some. It is true Burt was more into bossa nova and musical orchestra, Bee Gees a bit more rock-pop oriented but still very soul deep. Even Nina Simone has made natural interpretations of Bee Gees own songs, while Bacharach collaborated with other 60's soul-pop singers as Warwick and Franklin, which automatically attracted more ones like Springfield, Shaw and The Carpenters. Bee Gess later dwelled into different genres, most material yet unknown to me, except their High Civilization 1991. My little sister then had a love for their song Secret Love (and she likes Bacharach too).


But Bee Gees share with Burt a soulful feeling for schlager melodies combined with exotic beats. Beatles of course were close too, especially in the beginning. Bee Gees even covered Please Please Me -63 without knowing yet which big group they will be shown to have got the material from. And both groups could with some of their songs have made gold for the Motown Records, if they had been black. Many good covers of Beatles are made by motown artists. Well, who hasn't covered Beatles? Bee Gees made a beautiful version of Nowhere Man, but sadly enough skipped the good beat which they could have even developed.
