11 May 2012
from the first eleven albums by Elton John
and Bernie Taupin
These are the eleven "ballads" I've loved for the longest time
and then
the eleven "rockers" I begin to appreciate most now.
As for many other artists, although I still value his melody making higher, I finally realise Elton's power as a rock'n'roller is very big too.
Also mention which I like most among the songs I experience as "mixtures" between ballads and rockers or something else.
First a good portrait video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQF3qlSoeWk
from Empty Sky (1969)
Ballad : SKYLINE PIGEON
Rocker : WESTERN FORD GATEWAY
Mixture : HYMN 2000
from Elton John (1970)
Ballad : YOUR SONG
Rocker : THE CAGE
Mixture : GREY SEAL (Bonus track in Original version)
from Tumbleweed Connection (1971)
Ballad : COME DOWN IN TIME
Rocker : AMOREENA
Mixture : INTO THE OLD MAN'S SHOES (Bonus single)
from Madman Across The Water (1971)
Ballad : GOODBYE
Rocker : no really rolling here
Mixture : TINY DANCER (L.A. Lady)
from Honky Chateau (1972)
Ballad : ROCKET MAN
Rocker : SUSIE
Mixture : AMY
from Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player (1973)
Ballad : DANIEL
Rocker : CROCODILE ROCK
Mixture : TEACHER I NEED YOU
from Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (1973)
Ballad : GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD
Rocker : YOUR SISTER CAN'T TWIST (BUT SHE CAN ROCK'N'ROLL)
Mixture : THIS SONG HAS NO TITLE
from Caribou (1974)
Ballad : I'VE SEEN THE SAUCERS
Rocker : YOU'RE SO STATIC
Mixture : SOLAR PRESTIGE A GAMMON
from Captain Fantastic and The Brown Dirt Cowboy (1975)
Ballad : SOMEONE SAVED MY LIFE TONIGHT
Rocker : BITTER FINGERS
Mixture : TOWER OF BABEL
from Rock of The Westies (1975)
Ballad : FEED ME
