TOTAL RECALL in new version

by Len Wiseman
USA 2012
based on Philip K Dick's short story "We Can Remember it For You Wholesale"

New version seems much more aestethic and presents the mindbending idea as interesting as original 1990 movie does. Otherwise this version has a bit too much action and too little humour.

Lonerism with Tame Impala

This australian master piece MUST be among the 12 best albums of 2012, though # 13 on allmusic's list

Some Nights with Fun.

allmusic puts this as the 29:th best album of 2012. I've heard very few from that list or other lists, but anyway I would probably put Fun.'s firework highest on my top twelve...

The Final Countdown 'n Out of This World with Europe

Both their albums of the late 80's were almost impossible to miss. The band from my home country went out to the world, possibly all the way to Venus and/or Mars. And maybe now(?) when we finally have counted down to zero(?) we are going out of this world (?) and into some other world(?).

Anyway, completing what I wasn't able to hear then... finally repeating these soft metal tracks, syntesized by Michaeli, made by Tempest. It really became a public pop combination, a solution to the polarisation between hard guitar groups and synthpopish schlagers.

Realise now Out of This World (-88) has stronger melodies and less empty space passages, though I never owned nor listened to it as much as The Final Countdown (-86) whose three first breakthrough tracks seemed enough for making a completely historic record. But if Europe would've waited two years, then melting half of each album into one - it should have been among our world's 100 greatest. Yet it probably would've been to late by then - to press the most successful keys on the universal keyboard...

most Loving songs: TIME HAS COME and OPEN YOUR HEART

most growing Strong songs: CHEROKEE and JUST THE BEGINNING

most Strange songs: THE FINAL COUNTDOWN and TOWER'S CALLIN'

Killing Me Softly with Roberta Flack

Roberta is still unknown to me, but her 1973 album I've returned to. It's is a pearl of fine jazz-soul songs, of quite different kinds though all fit her well. Beyond the Hill with Mia Martini

OLTRE LA COLLINA con Mia Martini

Since I visited Italy seven years ago for my first time
I've returned to early records she sings
This is her debut album from 1971
in fields sounding somewhere between Dusty Springfield, Jesus Christ Superstar and (a little later) Frida in ABBA or maybe Baccara.

Martini may not have the most sweet or strong voice
but anyway she brings spirit and mystery
to every kind of 70's music so tastefully arranged
